"My Dream Rig is unique ..." seems a never ending story to me

Recently I started morphing 2 completely different sound s( you can consider them as separate presets) with my external pedal. I assigned to the MIN / MIX-position of my pedal all the relevant parameters of the amp and FX-blocks I am using in these presets.

I have known that before, but I have never tried it. In my Cover Rock Band we are actually working on two songs, where an ordinary change of presets by using a FS seemed a too hard cut for me soundwise. After some testing it worked pretty well.

The first example is a recording of the Little River Band song "Night Owls" we did in our rehearshal room (One Take - no fake, and so are some intonation errors). I am using the Marshall Plexi 100 for Rhythm and the Treadplate Model for Lead (both pre amp models). The DT50/212 was linked with the Direct Out to the PA-Mixer where we recorded it. For both parts (Rhythm and Lead) I assigned some amp and FX-parameters to morph fluently into a different sound (there is some unwanted string noise in the tapping part of the second solo :-(

The second example of morphing between 2 presets (Rhythm and Lead) is a recording I did at home with my HD500, using the Treadplate Full Amp Models. The HD500 goes directly into an audio interface. I did the recording of the guitar parts to a playback of "Wicked Games" in the version of HIM (Bass, Drums, Keys). Iam jamming on this playback to practice. I did not managed the morphing with the pedal during the recording very well. But I hope you can hear what I mean:

I think this is a real powerful feature I will spend more time to finetune it.

Any hints / experiences from other users who are already working on this is greatly welcome (I know I can use the volume and tone knob of my Variax for that as well. But at least at the moment I rely on my 2 pedals for that).

Yesterday we have recorded "Dust In The Wind" in our rehearsal room. We always record the complete band in try to do it in one Take. This Take has 1-2 intonation failures, but in an acceptable bandwith I think.

All in all I think the record captured the original mood quite well.

As it was somewhere around midnight, we will call it our "Late Night Version".

As we all are around 50 years, we slow down a little bit and so the tempo of the song

But I would say this songs benefits with even more deepness from that.

I am playing the JTV69 guitar with a Martin 6-String Acoustic Model. As the string action is lowered, mainly for E-Guitar playing, you can hear some string buzz which you normally don't hear on Acoustic guitars.

I have replaced the standard neck with a Warmoth neck. Apart of the fantastic playing behaviour, this neck aslo eases fingerpicking, because of the broader neck.

Please be aware that I am using the FX Send Block to root my Acoustics to the PA-Mixer. (The E-guitar presets are running through the DT50/212. I am using the Direct Out of the DT50/212 to connect to the PA-Mixer. The quality is outstanding - no need for micing the amp).

In case of interest to anybody: here are my HD500 presets.

1. La Grange / ZZ Top (see post above for listening)

The Recording was done with the Full Amp Model of the Mesa Boogie / Dual Rectifer, directly from the HD500 into a TASCAM audiointerface. For live playing, I am only using pre amp models. The following presets are used in relation with my DT50/212.

- Intro part (played with finger picking)

Larry,

I will have a look on your ZZ/Top presets.

I am not really happy with the string buzzing on Acoustic presets. I see this ss a conflict: my current action is setup for E-Guitar playing. Raising the action will improve Acoustic sound/playing, but aggravates E-Guitar playing :-(

Thanks for the tones, especially the ZZtop! I've uploaded a few more of mine, if you're interested, and will add a few more. Dust in the Wind would sound a lot better, IMO, if you raised the action, because the JTV tends to interpret buzzing as some kind of harmonic noise, resulting in a strange sounding acoustic. The JTV models appear to be really sensitive to string brand, guage and action, much more so than any 'conventional' guitar.

A little EQ, basically, and I run the patch via my acoustic path -> through the send/return, just like an acoustic guitar. I placed the patch in CUSTOMTONE - http://line6.com/customtone/profile/LarryLion/. See what I mean - the clip and the patch go together ; I might update this patch - the version I had here on my desktop might have been out of date, but give it a try. The patch will select RESO#2, and will place a virtual capo at the third fret, so you can play this as if in D minor, although it will sound as if in F minor. You should either connect an acoustic amp or PA to the SEND output, or disable the "Send/Return" FX atthe end of the chain. However, I think this sounds best on the SEND output to an acoustic amp. I'll check my current version and repost, if neccessary.

oh - really cool! I like that sound! I think you and my singer in the band have finally convinced me to do this song! The sitar is sounding awesome!

Apart of the JTV-sitar, do you use any additional FX-blocks in your signal chain?

once you have posted your "Paint it Black" recording we seriously should think about generating new STONES SUB-FORUM

By the way: our singer is constantly treating me to play this song. Yes, and the JTV-sitar should sound very perfect in it.

This is really a good idea from you! I know it takes a little bit of self confidence to post some audio, but it is truely enriching these type of forums, because it brings us always back to the main purpose and it has some fun as well.

I take your hint regarding the presets and I will post some on Custome Tone. As I am busisness wise away from my Dream Rig, I will do this by next weekend.

You are right: the presets are somehow a destillation of the personal experience and that could fit to some of the user out there and vice versa. I will do so!
