Hi everyone,
I have noticed that some of you are experiencing pops and clicks and white noise on your Windows 7 machines at times when using a Line 6 device. I appreciate all of the useful information you have given us so far. One thing that I'd like to do is consolidate as much of this information as possible into this one thread. This will make the issue easier for us to look into. Below is a template containing some questions. Please cut and paste this template in your response and answer each question as precisely and as detailed as you can. Recipes and repro cases are welcome as well. Thanks guys!
What are the detailed specs of your computer (model type, processor type and speed, RAM, motherboard, chipset)?
When do the noises occur? During recording? Streaming audio and video through various players?
How often do the noises occur? Intermittent? Always?
Are you able to reproduce the noises? If so can you give us a recipe or repro steps?
Can you post a little clip of the noises and attach them to your reply? (MP3, .WAV, AIFF, etc)
Hopefully we can use this thread to spot some trends. Thanks for you cooperation everyone.

Detailed specs of your computer (model type, processor type and speed, RAM, motherboard, chipset)?
Pentium D 805
2GB Ram
(not sur of the others, will update the post later)
When do the noises occur? During recording? Streaming audio and video through various players?
The noise occurs during movement on the screen. But only certain things trigger it, like opening a new window, or scrolling
How often do the noises occur? Intermittent? Always?
Intermittent
Are you able to reproduce the noises? If so can you give us a recipe or repro steps?
Play music/ record, then scroll using your mouse
What are the detailed specs of your computer (model type, processor type and speed, RAM, motherboard, chipset)?
Intel Q6600 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, Mobob - Asus Strike Extreme, Windows 7 Home Premium x64, 2x8800GT graphics
When do the noises occur? During recording? Streaming audio and video through various players?
When playing back or recording using a DAW - happens with Cubase Essential 5 and Reaper. However if I'm just playing guitar on Podfarm, Guitar Rig or Revalver there isn't a problem. The problem comes when a DAW is loaded.
How often do the noises occur? Intermittent? Always?
Within a five minute period I'll at least get one painful shite noise spike. Sometimes many more.
Are you able to reproduce the noises? If so can you give us a recipe or repro steps?
I can't see a pattern other than that the white noise is more severe when modelling high gain amps. I can guarantee I get the white noise blips if I run a DAW, though one might have to wait a few minutes for the first to arrive. Once there's been one - others seem to follow in greater quantity.
Can you post a little clip of the noises and attach them to your reply? (MP3, .WAV, AIFF, etc)
Interestingly the DAW never records the spikes. It seems to be a playback issue with the UX1 rather than something to do with the sound that gets recorded.
What are the detailed specs of your computer (model type, processor type and speed, RAM, motherboard, chipset)?
Intel Core i7 950 @3.07Ghz, 8 Gb RAM, Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
When do the noises occur? During recording? Streaming audio and video through various players?
Clicks/buffer-misses all the time, both using ASIO and normal usage (spotify, youtube, ...)
How often do the noises occur? Intermittent? Always?
All the time, sounds like buffer-misses, probably average of at least once per minute.
Happens without user input, but seems worse when using mouse to open windows, switch programs, and so on...
Are you able to reproduce the noises? If so can you give us a recipe or repro steps?
Play sounds on my computer...

What are the detailed specs of your computer (model type, processor type and speed, RAM, motherboard, chipset)?
Dell Studio 15, Intel Core i7 720QM quad core, 4GB RAM (DDR3, 1066MHz)
When do the noises occur? During recording? Streaming audio and video through various players?
Noises occur during recording and playback in Acoustica Mixcraft. No noises in other Windows operations, but rather the sound works only intermittently - i.e. many system sounds just don't happen, test sound in device driver just hangs, no sound most of the time.
How often do the noises occur? Intermittent? Always?
Always in Mixcraft, intermittent sound on and off in other applications
Are you able to reproduce the noises? If so can you give us a recipe or repro steps?
Load and play any file in Mixcraft. General sound not working, so just need to take any action that is supposed to make a Windows sound or application (e.g. iTunes)
Can you post a little clip of the noises and attach them to your reply? (MP3, .WAV, AIFF, etc)
I can't at the moment, but it's the same general digital "stutter" that you hear from other apps, streaming audio/video, etc.
What are the detailed specs of your computer (model type, processor type and speed, RAM, motherboard, chipset)?
HP Pavilion dv9500 Notebook PC, Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 @ 2.00GHz, 4096MB RAM, Quanta 30CB 79.2E, Intel PM965 Rev. C0
When do the noises occur? During recording? Streaming audio and video through various players?
These noises occur at random whenever using the PODxt as my sound playback device. It occurs during streaming and during audio playback in audio software such as Record/Reason.
How often do the noises occur? Intermittent? Always?
They happen intermittent, a few times a minute. Sometimes more, sometimes less.
Are you able to reproduce the noises? If so can you give us a recipe or repro steps?
Plug in PODxt and start audio playback of anything.
Can you post a little clip of the noises and attach them to your reply? (MP3, .WAV, AIFF, etc)
They don't get recorded but sound like short bursts of white noise.

Both during recording and playback.
How often do the noises occur? Intermittent? Always?
Missed buffers(or whatever the clicks are) Intermittent, but maybe about once a minute on average.
Are you able to reproduce the noises? If so can you give us a recipe or repro steps?

When do the noises occur? During recording? Streaming audio and video through various players?
It occur randomly when listening music with Winamp or WMP. I don't recording for moment so I don't know if this interfer.
How often do the noises occur? Intermittent? Always?
It occur often and randomly. It can occur like 4 times in 5 minutes. Sometime 1 time in 1 hour...
Are you able to reproduce the noises? If so can you give us a recipe or repro steps?
I can reproduce it when listening music but not like I want. It's really random and the effect is really short (like 1sec or less).
Can you post a little clip of the noises and attach them to your reply? (MP3, .WAV, AIFF, etc)
Not easy because of the random and short effect. If I can later, I will.
Thank you !
Lots of systems, I7 920, Q6600, AMD etc.
Only happens with USB 1 devices I have like UX2, PODxt, PODxt live. Does not happen with USB 2 devices like Black UX2, X3 etc. I think MS has moved the priority of ISO USB 1.1 devices too low on their interrupt chain.

Hi Chriswhitener,
I've got the POD studio UX1 that is black (I think it's USB 2) and I have the problem. Maybe I'm wrong.

System is AMD Phenom X3/X2+ 550 3.1ghz (black Edition), Gigabyte MA-785, 6gig Kingston DDR2 800 mhz RAM, GTS 250- with win7x64-ult .I too am having issues with USB 1 devices , but Im not using L6 Audio interface so I am just posting to help resolve this issue
When do the noises occur? During recording? Streaming audio and video through various players?
I have a Flextone III into a NIO2-4(USB 1) - I get pops every few seconds depending on latency settings- lower latency= less time between pop/crackle, higher latency = more time between, also get them in Sonar 8 if I use the AISO (USB 1) driver.
Are you able to reproduce the noises? If so can you give us a recipe or repro steps?
Fflextone III into NIO then into amplitube, always happens constantly. Changed priority on amplitube (High or realtime) has a slight effect, pops are not as constant or loud.
I have ran the trouble shooter and tried every compatibility setting possible, I have also turned off all visual effects . I am also having issues with my flextoneIII and line6 edit (another issue)
Have checked all the IRQ assignments and system limited bandwidth on each host controller, I think its at the driver level these are the 3 drivers that run with my USB 1 device- all in system 32/drivers- usbd.sys : usbfilter.sys : usbhub.sys.
All my audio worked 100% on Vista 64-ult , if this issue is endemic to win7 i will have to Run my studio on a vista boot .....ewww
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Hmmm now i feel stupid- after running through my process list with win7-manager I carefully shutdown each 1 hoping I had some rogue program interfering with the Audio stream and after a few hours I found the culprit - My mobo chipset disk had installed Easytune6 and I used it to monitor core/cpu temps, as soon as I killed it all the pops and clicks went away, have tested with the above mentions software and Sonar8 Prod 8.3 (with a stack of VST plugins) and still no pops. On Vistax64 I could get Flex->NIO->Amplitube's AISO buffer latency down to 5ms before it broke up, with very little tweaking I can now get 2ms buffer-
I would guess most of you with this issue have tried stopping background programs but if you havnt go for the Energy Saver-Overclocking-comeswithMobo- stuff 1st. Good luck

What are the detailed specs of your computer (model type, processor type and speed, RAM, motherboard, chipset)?
Intel Q6600 CPU, 4GB memory, inter 865 chipset.
Red toneport UX2.
When do the noises occur? During recording? Streaming audio and video through various players?
during ASIO recording/playback. Never through POD farm or windows applications, once I move the latency bar to about the middle in the gearbox properties (though it used to work just fine on the 2nd notch on XP).
How often do the noises occur? Intermittent? Always?
Always, Intermittent.
Are you able to reproduce the noises? If so can you give us a recipe or repro steps?
Nothing special.
Can you post a little clip of the noises and attach them to your reply? (MP3, .WAV, AIFF, etc)
What are the detailed specs of your computer (model type, processor type and speed, RAM, motherboard, chipset)?
HP Pavilion dv6-1244tx, Intel Core 2 Duo 2.53, 4 gig ddr sdram, Windows 7. UX2 with Pod Farm, Ableton Live Lite
When do the noises occur? During recording? Streaming audio and video through various players?
The noises occur during recording with Ableton Live Lite and during normal playing using POD Farm. The CPU usage meter gets quite high when using Ableton Live. The noise is much worse while using Ableton Live Lite. After about 30 seconds it gets really slow and then basically freezes, at this point even if I close Ableton, Pod Farm is still affected.
How often do the noises occur? Intermittent? Always?
Always but worse while using Ableton. It has made Ableton unusable.
Are you able to reproduce the noises? If so can you give us a recipe or repro steps?
No the noises do not record, however.
Can you post a little clip of the noises and attach them to your reply? (MP3, .WAV, AIFF, etc)
